if you’re are not a visual learner, and prefer reading written instructions, or need a quick cheat sheet reference, I’ve outlined the basic stitches below:

slip knot

Create a loop at the end of your yarn, leaving about a four inch tail hanging. Using your thumb and pointer finger, reach inside the loop and grab the ball end of the yarn and pull out of the loop until knot is formed.

chain

With the crochet hook inserted into your slip knot, yarn over (there should be two loops on your hook now). Pull the crochet hook and top loop through the bottom loop. The top loop has now become your new bottom loop. Yarn over, pull through. Repeat until you reach your desired chain length.

slip stitch

Insert your hook into a chain stitch, yarn over, pull through, pull through.

single crochet

Insert your hook into a chain stitch, yarn over, pull through, yarn over, pull through both loops.

half double crochet

Yarn over, insert hook into chain stitch, yarn over, pull through, yarn over, pull through all three loops.

double crochet

Yarn over, insert hook into chain stitch, yarn over, pull through, yarn over, pull through the first TWO loops on your hook, yarn over, pull through last two loops on your hook.

triple crochet

Yarn over twice, insert hook into chain stitch, yarn over, pull through, yarn over, pull through first TWO loops on your hook, yarn over, pull through NEXT TWO loops on your hook, yarn over, pull through LAST TWO loops on your hook.
